Can You Stop a Cold with Vitamin C and What is LypoSpheric Vitamin C?

It’s that time of the year again – at least in the temperate regions. You know, the nights are chilly, and the days are 85°F one day and 65°F the next.  And with that comes the dreaded cold….

They’re not deadly (usually), but they certainly are annoying.  Your nose won’t quit running, then it gets stuffed up, your eyes are watery and well, you just feel like crap.

Antibiotics won’t work against a cold since they’re caused by viruses (not bacteria), so can Vitamin C stop a cold? And what about LypoSpheric Vitamin C?

What Exactly is Vitamin C?

We all know Vitamin C is an antioxidant, but what does that mean, exactly?

Well, it means that Vitamin C donates an electron to the harmful free radicals floating around in your body so that they don’t need to steal electrons from your cells (which damages them).

Vitamin C (or ascorbic acid) is produced naturally in almost every other animal. The ones who can’t produce their own Vitamin C are the guinea pigs, monkeys, some flying mammals, and humans.

However, scientists have studied the human genome and they think we used to make our own Vitamin C.  They think that, somewhere around 60 million years ago, one of the genes in humans became defective. We still have that gene, however.

When that gene became defective, it stopped producing a protein enzyme called L-gulonolactone oxidase or GLO. Without GLO, the liver blocks glucose from being converted into Vitamin C.

What’s the RDA for Vitamin C in Humans?

The FDA has set the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin C at 90 mg for adults, but science shows that that number is way too low.  So, we should all definitely be supplementing our diet with Vitamin C because it has a powerful effect on many different areas of the body which helps it recover from illness and just stay healthy.

In fact, in animals that produce their own Vitamin C, when they get sick or stressed, they’ll amp up their Vitamin C production to over 13 times the normal amount, and they tend to recover and live long lives. Unless they come across a hunter or other predator, that is.

What Depletes our Vitamin C?

Several things can deplete your Vitamin C.  Stress, smoking, illness, injury, birth control pills, estrogen for menopause, cortisone and aspirin are a few of the ways Vitamin C gets depleted quickly. So if you have any of these issues, you should definitely be supplementing…

Does Vitamin C Stop a Cold?

The fact is: yes, it can.  But there are some caveats:

  • Vitamin C is one of the least stable vitamins. It’s easily lost from foods when storing and preparing them, so it’s best to eat your foods raw or lightly steamed to preserve the Vitamin C content. Fermenting them is good, too.
  • Those vitamin C tablets you take? You’re not absorbing as much as you think you are.  A study at the NIH found that you can only absorb 200 mg of Vitamin C into your bloodstream at any given time (if using tablets, powders, etc). So if you take a couple 1000 mg pills, you’ll absorb about 200 mg and pee out the remaining 1800 mg. But, there is a way to get around that and absorb more (keep reading….)
  • You need FAR more than the RDA amount. 4g – 6g is recommended (that’s 4000 – 6000 mg).
  • Because it gets used up pretty quickly, you want to keep a certain level in your bloodstream all day. So, you need to take it several times throughout the day instead of just doing one big dose once a day.

What Are Some of Vitamin C’s Benefits?

There are too many to list, but science has shown that Vitamin C packs quite a punch when it comes to recovering from arthritis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, stroke and even cataracts. New research shows that vitamin C might play a role in helping you oxidize fat!

It’s used to help make collagen, which is used in your tendons, ligaments, bones, and blood vessels. It’s used to make norepinephrine, which regulates your moods. It also helps protect against high cholesterol and gallstones, reduces the side effects of some drugs (e.g., aspirin, insulin and cortisone), and even reduces the toxicity of heavy metals like lead and arsenic.

Vitamin C works inside your cells.  Which means, for it to be of any use, it has to get absorbed in the small intestine, get into the bloodstream, then pass through the phospholipid bilayer of your cell membranes to finally make it into the cell, where it can work its magic.

That’s the beauty of LypoSpheric Vitamin C.

Vitamin C has been used to cure cancer for many years. Now, I know you’re all thinking, “That’s just a myth”. It’s true that it doesn’t work in all cases, but it has worked in many cases. I spent 2 years researching Vitamin C and cancer, so you can believe what you want, but I suggest you go on a research spree yourself and form your conclusion then. (Just be sure you’re gauging the biases of who published what research and why).

Why don’t people talk about it much? Well, they aren’t allowed to.  Any medical professional who touts remedies that work but that do not involve giving money to the huge pharmaceutical industry or aligning with the federal agencies that oversee healthcare in this country get ridiculed, they get their licenses removed, and there have been some who have “mysteriously” and suddenly died.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory, eh?  I’m not here to convince anyone of anything. I’m just speaking from several years of research and talking to actual cancer survivors who used Vitamin C (the Riordan Protocol) with some other lifestyle changes, as well, instead of chemo and radiation to heal.

If you don’t know, though, the chemist and activist Linus Pauling won 2 Nobel Prizes: one in chemistry in 1954, followed by a Nobel Peace Prize in 1962. He almost won a third Nobel Prize, except Watson and Crick narrowly beat him to the discovery of the structure of DNA. He did a LOT of research into Vitamin C.

He wrote several books detailing his discoveries, including Vitamin C and the Common Cold in 1970, followed by Vitamin C, the Common Cold and the Flu (1976), Vitamin C and Cancer (1979), and How to Feel Better and Live Longer (1986).

He, himself, took 12,000 mg of Vitamin C a day and determined that people need a minimum of 6000 mg (6 g) of Vitamin C per day.
